How do we know when to make a delivery?
1/10

The degree day system is the most common way to schedule deliveries and it is the system we use. A degree day is a unit for measuring how cold or hot it has been over a 24 hour period. Whenever the average temperature is below 65 degree, you have a degree day. For example.. if the high for the day is 70 and the low was 50 the average is 60. This is 5 degrees less than the base temperature of 65 degrees. Therefore, we can say that there were 5 degree days for the day. We track and accumulate degree days throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you didn't find the information you were looking for, perhaps it's on our frequently asked question page more...

Another bit of information we need is how fast the customer uses fuel which we call k-factor. This is like miles-per-gallon for vehicles. All vehicle have different mpg and so do houses. The main factors that make your k-factor are house size, insulation, and comfort level. To figure your k-factor we need to have the tank full. Once the tank is full we have a starting degree day. For an example if we delivered November 25 and filled the tank you started with 619 degree days. Your next delivery is made on Dec. 30 and it took 150 gallons to fill the tank. The accumulated degree days on that day were 1462. The difference in degree days (1462-619) is 843. Take 843 divide by the gallons delivered (150 gallons) = 5.62 which would be your k-factor.

The most common tank size is 275 gallons but no matter what the size is we DON'T want to wait until you run out to make a delivery. We try to make a delivery of 170 gallons. This gives us some flexibility. So, the last step. If you take the k-factor 5.62 and multiple the gallons we desire to deliver 170gals. that give you 955 degree days, add that to the degree days of the last delivery(1462) = 2305. When we accumulate that many degree days we will be out to make the delivery. If nothing changes every 955 degree days you will use about 170 gallons.

BUT HEY, you don't need to know all that. Just know we do to make sure you stay warm and comfortable!

Have a good day, Tim

Happy 45th Anniversary!
11/09

We will be celebrating 45 years in business! What an accomplishment!

We want to THANK YOU for allowing us to be a part of your home, farm, and business. In 45 years we have gained a lot of valuable experience. One philosophy that has been with Edris Oil from day one is to provide a great product and service at a fair price. This has always been our mantra and we believe, the right thing to do. Many people ask me, "What is the catch with our Peace of Mind Program?" or "Why don't you have fees for cancellations or delivery charges?". The answer is: We have no gimmicks or catches. We never have and never will.

These gimmicks and catches will not benefit the customer and in return will not benefit us. The "do the right thing" attitude has allowed us to grow and plan to continue growing for another 45 years.

Edris oil Service as well as other businesses and industries have been faced with many challenges during uncertain times. We believe doing the right thing with a good product, service and price has kept us around for 45 years. Simply put "We Care".

We are thankful for many things during this holiday season including our family, friends, customers, community, and country.

Edris Oil Service has been collecting non-perishable food items for the York County Food Bank and we encourage everyone to donate this holiday season. Even if it is only one can, you can make a difference!

You can drop off donations to our office or directly to:
York County Food Bank

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Let's make some changes!
6/09

We have one year under our belt with the website and we are in the process of doing some upgrades and changes. We think over-all the website provides easy access and useful information. But, we want to make it better and want your help.

Please give us your ideas to make it more useful for you. We strive to make your experience with us helpful, enjoyable, and easy. So, please take a moment and send me an email to let me know what you think.

A change that I'm happy with is the price for oil. The trend of higher prices has been broken. I don't want to jinks things but it does seem we are in a more normal pricing range. Oil is once again an economical option. It has also gotten cleaner and more efficient. Furnace manufacturers have stepped up to make their products more efficient and refiners are producing lower sulfur fuels. Change is good and oil heat is definitely changing for the better. Stay tuned for more good changes.

The last change I will talk about is our Peace of Mind Program. We normally wait until summer to get our numbers out. This year we are bringing it out early. It might even be on this website now, depending on when you read this. We feel this a good time to get pricing out to you. And remember if the market goes down more ... you are covered. This program has SAVED thousands of dollars to every customer who has done it over the years. A fixed price is one number and only work if prices go up. Our Peace of Mind cap program covers you if prices go up or down. And as we know prices will go up and will come down. Don't pay more than you need to!

Have a great day

Peace of Mind is here!
8/08

I thought I would give some of my reasons why this is something you should do.

Prices have increased at a record breaking pace over the past several years. This year has been no exception (about 2 dollars). Every time you turned on the television oil prices are center stage. We all have been bombed with political problems and supply problems as reasons why prices have increased.

In my opinion there is NO supply problems, but Iran has and will continue to be a problem. If something happens their price will skyrocket. Hurricanes, refinery problems, and other misc. happenings will bounce the market up but typically don't have a lasting mark on prices. Iran could have a lasting mark on prices because of their location and the oil they can supply.

What goes up must come down. Yes, prices can come down in fact we have been waiting for a price decrease to be able to offer better pricing. The wait has paid off and hopefully prices continue to fall. That is why we offer the cap program. If prices get better we want to offer the better prices.

Prices increased about 2 dollars over the year. Why can't they decrease 2 dollars and what is to stop them from going up another 2 dollars. My crystal ball says things are WAY out of whack! Supply and demand points to lower prices and political instability points to higher prices. I know which one I want to win out, but no one knows what will happen. We all want lower prices and the cap program will give that to you if prices fall and protects you if prices go higher.

If you have any questions or comments email me. I would like some opinions of what you think prices will do.

Thank You, Tim

What to do? Should I fill my tank or should I wait?
6/08

Certainly many calls have been from customers wanting to know what to do. Should I fill my tank or should I wait? Let's tackle both questions separately.

Yes, you should fill your tank. Why? That's easy because the news tells you prices are going to increase and that is easy to believe because well... just look at the past several years. Demand from other countries is increasing and supply will not be able to keep up. Let's not forget about political instability. I'm not sure how this factors in when those countries have been unstable for some time. One other reason to fill your tank is to reduce condensation. A full tank will help keep condensation from forming in your tank.

No, you should wait to fill your tank. One can argue that prices have increased well beyond fundamental reasons. I have been taught that supply and demand will always rule the day. Supply has been at normal ranges for the past several years and demand has been decreasing in the past several months. Summertime usually brings h/o prices down. The economy is sick which is decreasing demand.

I could go on but lets sum up my thoughts. The reasons for the high prices have some logic behind them but to say they justify 135 dollar crude is absolutely absurd. Prices will come down, you just don't know when.

With all the information and misinformation out there we need to flip a coin to really know what to do. Heads - buy. Tails - wait. My coin said heads. And yes, I actually flipped a coin.

What am I thinking!!
Date: 5/08

I'm so excited that our website is here. I encourage everyone to explore the site. We are working very hard to make this site informative and easy to use. There are more things to come so keep logging on to see what is new and what new specials we will have.

For many years I have wanted to put out a letter to let people know what is going on in the industry. From covering price changes to product changes. There has been many changes over the last four years. Biofuels, ethanol, Ultra-low sulfur D/F, Off-Rd NRLM D/F, and many other changes have occurred.

PRICES have been the hottest topic in the business!! We know how much this effects you and we have and will continue to give you plans and options to keep prices as pain free as possible. I will be giving much more attention to prices in blogs to come.

My first blog, it is about time. I have much to say and I will say it about once a month. I will tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly. This will be about "what I'm thinking" and what is on your mind. This will be useful for everyone from home owners to business owners.

WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS. WE APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN YOUR TRUST.
